CNN deals to enter the FTA TV market in Brazil

As reported days ago by the specialized website ‘Notícias da TV’ (UOL), CNN Brazil, officially launched in the country in mid-March, began negotiations to enter the country’s FTA TV market, in order to increase its income and get greater audience. According to the information reported the website, the company’s first negotiations are with SBT, RedeTV! and TV Gazeta.

For the initiative, according to ‘Notícias da TV’, CNN Brazil is taking two alternatives into consideration: one is the merger with Brazilian TV channels, and the other is based on buying or renting regional channels. In turn, the website informed that the company, led by Douglas Tavolaro in Brazil, is supported by CNN in the US to develop its strategy.

In addition to the already mentioned channels, the specialized website ‘Na Telinha’ (UOL), reported that Rede Brasil and Ideal TV could also add CNN Brasil to their catalogs. In addition, in an interview with UOL, Tavolaro indicated that, at the moment, four FTA TV proposals are under evaluation for CNN Brazil, although the executive chose not to expand itself on them.

CNN Brazil was officially launched on March 15th, and is available on the country’s pay TV market, on channel 577 of pay TV operators Claro, Sky, Vivo and Oi, as confirmed by the channel’s social networks days before it was launched. In addition, the channel announced in February it would also have its TV Everywhere platform available, which it called ‘CNN Brasil GO’.
