Arena Academy, the first eSports school, was opened this week in Mexico City with the aim of training video game creators and professionalizing the stage for gamers. As reported by the Mexican newspaper ‘Milenio’, at first the institution will only be available in CDMX, but it is expected that, by the end of the year, it will expand itself to ten states in Mexico where League of Legends has gaming centers available.
‘The first phase, from April to December 2020, will consist of teaching courses for those who want to dedicate themselves professionally to eSports and children and young people who want to develop their own video game’, said Luis Fernando Martinez, Director of Arena the Place to Play, a company that sponsored the stadium where the Latin American League of Legends (LOL) is played.
The initiative will start with three courses. In the firstone, for children between 8 and 11 years old, they will learn how to make a game from scratch on two levels and they will be taught to create characters, how to make stages, create a story with narrative, the levels video games and music. ‘Learn and Play’, the next course, will be focused on children from 12 to 17 years old, who want to increase their competitive level in Fornite and FIFA. In ‘The Professionalization of eSports’, last course, gamers will be taught training routines, game analysis classes, how to create a team and other related topics. This last proposal is aimed at gamers up to 18 years old. In addition, the project will feature master classes, in which professionals from the gamer ecosystem will be invited, such as Jaime Limon, Marketing Manager of the Minecraft video game.
The Anahuac University will be the institution in charge of giving the pedagogical rigor for the project, supervising the teachers and curricularly validating the courses.
