Gabriela Jimenez, Head of the Compañia Anonima Nacional Telefonos de Venezuela (Cantv) announced that the company’s pay TV offer via DTH will operate again in Venezuela. The executive confirmed the information in the TV program ‘Cafe en la mañana’, broadcast on the Venezuelan FTA TV channel VTV (Venezolana de Television).
The service, called ‘Cantv Satelital’, became unavailable in the country in March, after the Venesat 1 satellite (78.0°W), on which the Cantv DTH operated, had a failure after 12 years in operation. At the time of stopping its operations, Cantv Satelital had around 600 thousand subscribers.
‘Two weeks ago, we started a test model with another international satellite service, and we already have the programming grid loaded’, said Jimenez, who added that Cantv will inform about the steps that users must follow to access the programming. For this new project, Cantv is using the Ku band of the Embratel StarOne C4 satellite (70.0° W)
As reported by the specialized website ‘Exploradores de Satelites’ (EDS), Cantv’s test package has 30 channels available, with channels such as VTV, TVes (Televisora Venezolana Social); TeleSUR Español; Venevision; Colombeia TV; RT (Russia); CGTN (China); Hispan TV (Iran); Cine Latino; Sun Channel; PX Sports; Animal Planet; Discovery channels, and others.
