According to the latest Netflix quarterly results report (Q4 2020), the platform informed that the reality show ‘Big Brother Brazil’ ranked second in a top 10 of the platform’s content catalog most searched on Google worldwide during last year.
In the top 10 shown by Netflix, ‘Big Brother Brazil’ is the only title which is not a Netflix original production. The first place went to ‘Tiger King’, while below the reality show were ‘Money Heist’; ‘Cobra Kai’; ‘The Umbrella Academy’; ‘Emily in Paris’; ‘Ozark’; ‘The Queen’s Gambit’; ‘Outer Banks’ and ‘Locke & Key’.
In Brazil, the 21st edition of ‘Big Brother’ is currently taking place, and began on January 25th. The rights of the format in the country belong to Grupo Globo. For the 2021 edition, Multishow, Grupo Globo’s pay TV channel, is showing various segments of its programming dedicated to the reality show. In addition, Globoplay, the Group’s SVOD OTT, offers daily programs, live broadcasts and featured programming based on ‘Big Brother Brazil’.
Apart from Globo, and according to specialized websites in Brazil, pay TV operator Claro (America Movil) and Sky (AT&T) launched in December 2020 new exclusive channels with content based on the program. This initiative is added to the one being done by DirecTV GO (AT&T), recently launched in Brazil, which includes a premium package called ‘Big Brother Brasil 21’, for a monthly subscription valued at R$ 22.90 (USD 4), with live content of the reality content and the possibility of watching the show 24 hours a day.
