US production company Intrigue Entertainment launched Globi, its new free AVOD of premium foreign content for North American audiences. So far, the platform offers more than 600 hours of movies and series from 20 countries, among which several Europeans stand out, but only one Latin American: Colombia.
As explained by Tariq Jalil, CEO of Globi, the increase in content dubbed into English in the large OTTs has increased the interest of Americans in the international market. “Audiences have made clear their desire to consume international content. Globi enters the streaming market to exclusively satisfy that need, with foreign content and for free”, he explained.
In addition, he assured that Globi’s main objective is to compete directly against Netflix’s foreign offer, which until now is the most predominant in the United States. “We’ve been watching foreign TV shows even before Netflix was“, Jalil said. “We knew there was a business there and an audience for those shows, but Netflix really helped blow the doors off the stigma of subtitles,” he added.
