Argentine soccer league launches eSports tournament

The Superliga Argentina de Fútbol (SAF) announced the launch of eSuperliga Red Bull, an official FIFA 19 competition, which will have representatives of the First Division teams of the country. It will be launched at the end of November.
The new initiative is a partnership between SAF, EA Sports and Red Bull. The companies decided to work on the development of eSports during the next year in Argentina, together with eSports Planet, a company that organizes videogame tournaments and has professional soccer player Javier Mascherano as one of its partners.
This is the first official tournament of a league in Latin America that is part of the FIFA Global Series. It will be played simultaneously with the fixture of the Superliga (the local soccer league). The qualifying stage will go from November 16 to 25 inclusive. The competition will take place from November 30 until April 20, 2019, approximately.
Each club of the Superliga will contribute one player, while the rest of the participants will be defined in the qualifying stage. The competition will be played under the FUT Champions modality. Registration to participate will be held until November 8 at the official website.
This initiative is part of the growing interest in eSports in the region. In Brazil, for example, DTH service Sky(AT&T) launched in August a sponsorship platform for eSports, starting with the e-Brasileirão, the national championship of Pro Evolution Soccer (PES), organized by the Brazilian Soccer Confederation (CBF).
