Apple invited media from all over the world to an event that will take place on March 25th at the Steve Jobs Theatre in the US, where it is expected to launch its subscription TV and video OTT globally. The company did not give details on the reason for the meeting, although the launch date would be in April.
The streaming platform will probably be distributed in the Apple App Store. According to Argentine newspaper ‘Ambito Financiero’, the service ‘could resell CBS Corp, Viacom Inc and Lions Gate Entertainment Startz’s subscriptions and other, as well as Apple’s own original content’. However, the company have not gave details about the launch date, subscription price and the platform’s productions. In addition to the OTT, the announcement of a news subscription platform is also expected.
Tim Cook, CEO of the company, had expressed at an analysts conference the corporation’s interest in launching a video OTT. In mid-2017, Apple hired Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg from Sony Pictures Television, as heads for the company’s video programming worldwide. Although both executives authorized several titles development, no original series were announced so far in Latin America.
