America Movil calls for greater competition in pay TV

During the opening of the event México Siglo XXI, Carlos Slim Domit, Chairman of the Board of Directors of America Movil, echoed the OECD recommendation and said that the competition remains a pending issue in the video market.

Slim Domit said that the exponential growth of speed, capacity, coverage and technological changes require regulatory frameworks based on international practices that give flexibility, legal certainty and stimulation to new technologies, “to meet the growth of data demand , expanding coverage; bringing access to all people anywhere and competition in all services: voice, broadband, and video, which is still pending.”

Last Thursday, the OECD said that Mexican regulator IFT “should assess the entry of Telmex into pay TV as soon as possible”, once it separates part of its network infrastructure into a new entity, as ordered by the IFT in March.

Slim Domit also said that Telmex’s commitment is to build technology platforms in the 26 countries where it competes and noted that the company has invested over USD 50 billion in Mexico.
