Film and TV distribution company Amazon Studios (Amazon), has officially announced this last Wednesday, August 25th, that it has started filming its first original Argentine film, which is called ‘Argentina, 1985’.

The film will be based on the ‘Juicio a las Juntas’, the name under which the judicial process developed by the Argentine Justice in 1985 is known, in which the military leaders who were in charge of leading the country during the last dictatorial period that took place in the country between 1976 and 1983  were tried. The film will be starring Argentine actors Ricardo Darin and Juan Pedro ‘Peter’ Lanzani, who will act as prosecutors Julio Strassera and Luis Moreno Ocampo, known for having led the charge against those responsible for the last dictatorial period.

‘It is exciting to be part of such an ambitious project that will take audiences on a journey through a key moment in Argentine history’, reported Javiera Balmaceda, Head of Local Originals, Spanish Speaking Latin America at Amazon Studios. ‘The amazing internationally recognized Argentine cast, the director and the entire Argentine production team will make one of the most exciting and best-produced films that will surely keep our audience talking’, the executive added.

The film is a co-production of Amazon Studios, La Union de los Rios, Kenya Films and Infinity Hill. At first, it will be released in movie theaters, and then move to Amazon Prime Video globally.
