Amazon seeks deals with Sony and Paramount

Amazon has held talks with executives of Sony and Paramount about options that could include co-financing movies in exchange for certain online rights, reported Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter.
With this strategy, Amazon is looking to attract viewers to its streaming service, which is also available in Latin America. One of the sources said the options included development funds, as well as money for film production. The company will spend more than USD 5 billion on video programming this year, according to Bloomberg Intelligence.
Bloomberg report said it’s not clear what rights Amazon could obtain. Meanwhile, the online retailer is rebooting its Los Angeles-based studio, which has produced a number of critically acclaimed projects but few blockbusters. In February, the company hired NBC executive Jennifer Salke to lead Amazon Studios.
