ZNBC opens up to local content

The Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) plans to promote local content by allowing local producers to showcase their content on ZNBC, announced Berry Lwando, Director of Programmes during the opening of the Young Cinema in Zambia Filmmaking Training workshop.

The move comes at a time when the country is gearing up towards digital migration. The state broadcaster, earlier this year, had announced an investment of ZMW 21 million (USD 4 million) to construct two provincial television stations to ease its load.

Zambia had failed to meet the 2013 digital switchover deadline set by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) due to the cancellation of the DTT supply tender awarded to the StarTimes Group, which the Chinese broadcaster won back in a fresh tendering process.
