Zee Media Corporation Ltd (ZMCL) is awaiting awaiting clearance from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) to rename its news and current affairs channel Maurya TV as Zee Purvaiya.
Maurya TV is owned by Maurya TV Pvt Ltd (MTPL), which in turn is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zee Media Corporation Ltd, according to Televisionpost. Subhash Chandra-backed ZMCL was earlier planning to launch separate channels- Zee Purvaiya (Bihar/ Jharkhand and Zee Kalinga (Orissa). The company will now its rename its existing channel- Maurya TV. ZMCL acquired Maurya TV Pvt Ltd in January this year for INR77.92 million.
According to ZMCL, Maurya TV has 14.2 % market share in Bihar and Jharkhand. The company currently runs Zee News (Hindi News) and Zee Business (Hindi Business News). In addition it has regional news channels, Zee 24 Taas (Marathi), Zee Sangam (UP & UK), Zee Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh (Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh), Zee Marudhara (Rajasthan) and several others. ZMCL recently announced that it is launching a new English news channel.
