YuppTV ventures into original content with $50M fund

YuppTV, the Indian content provider, is going for its original content production with the launching of Yupp TV Originals, following the funding of $50 million from KKR-backed Emerald Media, last year in October.

The OTT provider is all in for unusual stories, partnering with elites with unconventional talent from the film industry. Content will initially be of regional content, in an attempt to be developed into a film production later. The first mini-series to be produced by YuppTV is entitled, ‘Endukila’.

Among the various production companies with which YuppTV partnered, are iCandy Creations, Early Morning Tales (a division of Vijayanthi Movies), TrendLoud (the digital arm of Vision Times), Madhura Entertainment and Tamada Media.

Uday Reddy, the founder and CEO of YuppTV, revealed that: “We disrupted the entertainment sector with technology by launching YuppTV in 2006. Now with YuppTV Originals, we aim to disrupt the content space, following the needs of our evolving audience and our vision of providing high-quality engaging content”.

“Besides, YuppTV Originals will empower the content creators by providing direct access to the audience, thereby streamlining distribution. I’d further extend heartiest welcome to our associates from the film fraternity, ensuring optimum growth for the content ecosystem”, he also added.
