Karate Kid TV sequel coming to YouTube Red

YouTube Red, the subscription service of the popular video platform, will launch a Karate Kid TV sequel in 2018, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The new 10-episodes series, called Cobra Kai, will reunite the stars of the original film.

After 30 years, Ralph Macchio and William Zabka will return to play their famous characters: Danny LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the competitive bidding process for the TV rights also included offers from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and AMC.

The writers and executive producers will be Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine) as well as duo Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold and Kumar). Macchio and Zabka will co-exec produce. Will Smith’s Sony Pictures Television Studios-based Overbrook Entertainment will also exec produce.

In Latin America, YouTube Red is only available in Mexico. The service also operates in Australia, Korea, New Zealand and the United States.
