Vivo to offer NBA games in virtual reality

Brazilian mobile operator Vivo (Telefonica) announced that it will offer its customers the possibility of accessing  live games of the NBA through mobile phones and in virtual reality. This technology will be available to premium subscribers of the NBA app, which Vivo launched in April.

A total of 27 games of the new season (one per week) will be broadcast in VR. Users will also be able to access replays and highlights. The 2017/18 season begins October 17. Vivo announced that the full schedule of games to be broadcast in VR will be available in the app in mid-October.

To watch games in VR, subscribers will have to download NextVR app, which is available for Android devices, and have glasses compatible with the smartphone. Premium subscribers are those who have access to the so-called NBA League Pass, which includes 1200 games of regular season, playoffs and finals, as well as All-Star Weekend events. The Premium monthly subscription costs R$ 19.99 (USD 6.3). There is also a basic package for R$ 9.90 (USD 3.1) per month or $ 3.99 (USD 1.3) per week.
