Two companies bid for DTT licenses in Paraguay

The National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) of Paraguay opened the envelopes with the offers for three new DTT licenses. Initially, 12 companies acquired the document with technical specifications but only two submitted offers.

These companies are Mercuria SA and DTH Magnetic SA. According to Última Hora, Mercuria will receive for this initiative the support of an Argentine channel, said the president of the company, Hermann Weisensee, but he did not offer further details.

In turn, DTH Magética has partnered with Grupo América, the Argentinian multimedia that owns free to air channel América, the triple pay operator Supercanal and several TV channels, radios and newspapers. Mercuria intends to have its transmission plant in Fernando de la Mora while DHL Magnetic plans to have it in Asunción.

Conatel’s Radiocommunication manager, Alberto Ishibashi, stated that licenses will be awarded if companies comply with the required documentation. In that case, they must pay the minimum amount stipulated in the bidding documents (G. 2,000 million, USD 361 million). The directory board of Conatel can open a new bidding process for the third channel.
