Twitter unveils sports strategy in Brazil

During an event in São Paulo, Twitter presented its sports strategy and reveled data confirming that sport is one of the main topics of conversation in the country. The social network said that 80% of Brazilians on Twitter are interested in sports. From the beginning of 2016 until June 2017, the platform recorded 217 million Tweets on this subject in the country.

In a statement, Pitter Rodriguez, Twitter’s Head of Sports Partnerships in Latin America, said, “the interest of Brazilians goes beyond soccer and also involves eSports, other collective sports and American modalities”.

The data showed that the Brazilian championship, known as Brasileirão, is the second most tweeted national tournament in the world. In addition, Brazil is the country that tweets more about the NFL outside the United States and the second that tweeted more about eSports in 2016, right behind the USA.

The presentation was made last week at the Football Museum. It was attended by Twitter executives, sports TV channels, soccer teams, advertisers and sports figures, among others.
