Turner announced that it plans to launch a new standalone premium sports streaming service in 2018. The platform will be the home of UEFA Champions and Europa League games.
Turner closed a multi-platform deal with UEFA for a three-year period, beginning with the 2018-19 season. Live matches will also be regularly televised across TBS, TNT and/or truTV. In addition, Bleacher Report will serve as a portal to the OTT service and the live UEFA matches offered through the new platform.
The news about the launch of this new OTT service comes after Disney announced that it will offer a branded-ESPN multi-sport video streaming service in 2018.
Turner’s commitment to sports also includes other regions such as Latin America. In Argentina, the channel owns the rights of the local soccer tournament, in association with FOX. Turner owns several TV Everywhere platforms in the region but for the moment does not offer a ‘direct to the consumer’ service.
