A statement was made by Marcel Tchobo, technical adviser to the media Minister of the digital economy and communication stating that TNT will be available by the end of December 2018 in Benin.
Thus, after several postponements, well after June 17, 2015, the date set for the global transition to DTT, the Beninese authorities could finally benefit from DTT signals before the end of the current year. The first signals were issued in December 2017, during the Benin Digital Week.
The transition to DTT should be accompanied by the accreditation of television operators, in clear and pay, to expand the audiovisual offer of the country. Until then the television market in Benin is completely dominated by Canal + Africa which is undergoing a meager competition from operators like See Africa and TV Sat.
