Televisa sees growth in Q218 driven by FIFA World Cup

Televisa announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2018. The company’s net sales during the period increased 16.2% to MX $ 26,702 million (USD 1,398 million). This increase mainly was attributable to revenue growth in the Content and Cable segments, the company explained in its report.
Televisa’s net income increased 153% to MX $ 4,761 million (USD 249.3 million), mainly due to the sale of the investment in Imagina Media Audiovisual.
Sales in the Content area increased by 35.9% to MX $ 10,971 million (USD 574.4 million). Within this segment, advertising sales increased by 9.1% to MX $ 5,266 million (USD 275.7 million) due to “the successful transition to the new pricing methodology and the incremental revenues originated by the transmission of the World Cup,” the media group said in the report.
In this sense, the company said that in the second quarter, Content sales benefited from the sublicensing of certain of the broadcast and digital rights of the World Cup in Mexico and other Latin American markets, by MX$ 1,723.5 million (USD 90.2 million).
Sky’s second quarter sales increased by 0.3% to MX$ 5,659 million (USD 296.3 million). During the quarter, the number of net active subscribers increased by 51,256 to 7.96 million, compared to 8.01 million in June 2017. The operator ended the quarter with 180,482 subscribers in Central America and the Dominican Republic.
In the Cable area, second quarter sales increased 9.8% to MX$ 8,826 million (USD 462 million). Total revenue generating units (RGUs) reached 10.7 million (4.3 million video RGUs, 4.1 million data RGUs and 2.3 million Internet RGUs).
