Televisa considering spinning off units

Televisa said that it was still considering whether to keep the company without changes or to spin off some divisions, particularly its Cable TV unit. The Mexican broadcaster will finish its review this year. This was announced by Alfonso de Angoitia, Co- Chief Executive Officer of Televisa in an analyst conference call on Tuesday.
According to the executive, the company studies “if Televisa will be more valuable as a whole, as it is today, or if the pieces will be more valuable than Televisa,” El Financiero reported. De Angoitia stressed the need to “reach a place where we feel comfortable in this world in consolidation.”
In this context, the executive said they are watching closely the consolidation of content and distribution in the United States with AT&T and Time Warner, and with Disney and Fox.
In the first quarter of this year, Televisa already mentioned that it was considering spinning off assets, particularly its cable division, which integrates the operations of Cablevisión, Cablemás, Cablecom and TVI.
