Telefónica in talks to add Netflix content in Spain

Spain’s Telefónica is in talks with Netflix to include the contents of the streaming giant on Movistar+ platform, according to El Español. The agreement, which is not yet signed, is part of a strategy that seeks to transform the experience of Movistar+ with the addition of more content and 4K technology.
According to the Spanish media report, which cites sources familiar with the matter, Netflix’s productions will be incorporated into the on-demand contents of the Telefónica service and will have their own carousel within the TV menu. Details of the marketing model are still unknown.
Telefónica also has an important pay TV operation in Latin America (with more than 4.5 million subscribers), so the agreement with Netflix could open the door to a possible expansion to other markets.
At the end of last year, Telefónica’s President, José María Álvarez-Pallete, stated that the company was open to distributing products from other companies.
