Telefónica ended Q216 with 4.67 million pay TV subscribers in Latin America (including Brazil). In Hispanoamérica (which includes pay TV operations in Chile, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela), the subscriber base reached 2.9 million clients, a 9,7% growth compared to Q215, driven by a “strong increase in Colombia and Peru”.
In its quarterly report, Telefonica informed that the pay TV operation in Brazil registered 1.76 million customers in Q216 (the figure includes GVT accesses). In that country, the TV subscriber base fell 1.4% Year-on- year (YoY).
In Colombia, Telefónica grew 17% to 520,400 clients, benefiting from “higher number of channels broadcasted in high definition (82 channels and many of them already offered in the low-end bundle) and the content improvement”. Net additions for April-June period totaled 23,000 accesses.
Telefónica from Peru ended June with 1.25 million pay TV subscribers, a 15% annual growth with 21,000 net additions in the quarter, “driven by a differential offering and the broadcast of high-definition channels”.
