Telefónica ends Q1 with 4.67 million pay TV subs

Telefónica presented its Q118 report, the first with the new structure for Latin America. In the region, the company registered 4.67 million pay TV subscribers, of which 1.6 million belong to Brazil, 2.1 million to the Hispanoamérica Sur division and 1 million to Hispanoamérica Norte.
Brazil is Telefónica’s main pay TV market. In this country, the base decreased by 4.2% annually, mainly of its DTH operator. In contrast, IPTV accesses increased by 53% y-o-y after the extension of the service, now available in 59 cities.
The Hispam Sur division includes the pay TV operations in Chile and Peru. In Chile, pay TV accesses grew 2.5% year-on-year and reached 674,000. In Peru, the company registered 1.4 million TV accesses, up 8.8% y-o-y with 45,000 net additions in January-March. The company highlighted “the differential content added to the portfolio in the quarter with the launch of a TV series channel and music services”.
In Colombia, which is part of the Hispam Norte unit, Telefónica registered 547,000 pay TV accesses, up 4% from previous year. In the quarter, the company added close to 17,000 customers, the highest number of net additions over the last seven quarters. The rest of the subscribers of Hispam Norte belong to the operations in Venezuela and Central America.
