Telefonica presented its results for the fourth quarter of 2016 in which it reported 4.63 million pay TV accesses in Latin America (including Brazil).

Pay TV operations in Chile, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela (included in Hispanomérica unit), under the Movistar brand, reached 2.92 million accesses, up 3.8% compared to previous year. However, in Q416 Telefónica lost 4,000 accesses affected by the disconnection of fixed accesses in Colombia, which were not generating traffic.

In Brazil, the company’s largest pay TV market in term of subscribers, Telefónica (Vivo) reached 1.71 million accesses, down 4% vs. December 2015 due to lower commercial activity. However, IPTV accesses increased by 48% year-on-year (YoY) after recording net additions of 24,000 accesses in the quarter (82,000 accesses in the year).

In Peru, the second largest market, the company ended December 2016 with 1.28 million pay TV accesses, up 6.2% compared to previous year, while in Colombia it reached 517,500 accesses (+5.9 YoY).

In turn, the operation in Chile recorded 660,500 (+2.5% YoY). In Venezuela and Central America the pay TV base reached 466,100 (-2.5% YoY).
