StarTimes, the pay TV company, is bringing German Bundesliga to Nigeria and other Sub-Saharan African countries.
The operator now has rights to broadcast all German Bundesliga games for the next five years. StarTimes has also bagged rights to telecast FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 in South Africa and across sub-Saharan Africa.
“It was important for us to close the deal with StarTimes because the platform offers us the opportunity to reach millions of homes we didn’t reach before in this football-crazy continent. We see kids all over Africa playing at every available space and it is only fitting that we provide an opportunity for them to see one of the best football leagues in the world,” said Jorg Daubitzer from the DFL Sports Enterprise GmbH, the marketing arm of the Bundesliga, according to ThisDay Live.
