The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has issued three TV channel licenses in the month of January and the subsidiary of Star India, Asianet Communications, has received its approval for the launch of Star Suvarna HD, the high definition version of Kannada General entertainment channel.
The particular channel was previously known as Suvarna and was later rebranded as Star Suvarna HD. Star being all in for introducing HD channels, is gearing up for the future launch of the HD version of Maa Movies, the Telugu movie channel. The new channel will be mirroring content from the Maa Movies SD which is priced at 25 INR on reference interconnect offer (RIO).
Presently owning and operating 26 channels spanning across genres (GEC, sports, regional and English Entertainment), Star India is planning to introduce Star Gold Select HD, a premium HD movie channel.
Apart from issuing Star Suvarna HD, other TV channels such as Dighvijay TV and Jai Paras TV have received the approval of the MIB. Dighvijay TV is a news uplinking license while Jai Paras TV is a non-news uplinking licenses one.
