Star India partnered with BT Media & Broadcast to deliver 4K/ ultra-high-definition live coverage of 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup that was held in Australia from February 15th to March 29th 2015. Three partners of BT viz NEP Australia, Nevion and Sydney Teleport Services facilitated the UHD transmission.
BT Media & Broadcast provided the complete 4K/UHD production and transmission solution for Star India’s DTH playout affiliates in India for the World Cup. NEP provided nine 4K cameras and each game included UHD graphics, 4K replays, Dolby 5.1 and up-converted specialised HD camera shots.
BT’s partner, NEP Australia, filmed and produced all seven of the live-to-air UHD matches (India’s four pool matches plus three finals) from the Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide venues, said a recently released statement.
Another partner, Sydney Teleport Services, provided the TV outside broadcast backhaul and encoding of UHD visions from each cricket venue in Australia, to their teleport in Sydney which is connected to the BT Global Media Network (GMN).
BT Media & Broadcast integrated Nevion’s VS902 media gateways to provide IP encapsulation of the compressed 4K UHD signal and protection for 4K transmission to three affiliate DTH sites in New Delhi and Star’s head-quarters in Mumbai.
“Once on the GMN, the feeds are taken as fully resilient 1+1 services to three affiliate DTH sites in New Delhi, Star HQ in Mumbai and BT Tower in London. Each site has seamless IP protection switching and dual decoders to ensure full resilience and no dropped frames in the transmission to the sites,” added the statement.
