Technology company of Japanese origin Sony announced that it has stopped producing and distributing to the American and European continents their videogame console and set-top box (STB) Playstation TV, through which one could access contents from the firm’s online video platform.
“The supply of PlayStation TV ended in late 2015 for Sony Computer Entertainment America and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe”, read the press release issued by the company. Sony canceled the manufacturing in Japan in early 2016.
The console and STB was launched in 2013 in Japan and in late 2014 to the rest of the world but did not have a good public reception so prices began to fall due to lack of demand, 80% in the US and 40% in Europe, according to website iProfesional.com. The criticism focused on the lack of compatibility of online games.
