ShowMax, the video-streaming service provider, is now considered Android TV. This has come up with the release of the new version of its Android app. The VOD service provider has elevated the base of supported devices to include media players and smart TVs running Android TV.
ShowMax has released an updated Android app which now supports Android TV devices. This gives two new ways to watch ShowMax – either through a compatible Android media player or on a smart TV running Android TV software.
Compatible with Chromecast and Airplay, ShowMax is now accessible on an even wider range of smart TVs as well as smartphones, tablets, web browsers, Apple TV (4th generation), Android media players, and the DStv Explora (in South Africa).
Barron Ernst, the Chief Product Officer at ShowMax, commented: “Our engineering department has been working flat-out to increase the number of devices that can play ShowMax, and this is the fifth major expansion since we launched ShowMax just over a year ago. It means that anyone with a compatible Android media player or smart TV running Android software can access ShowMax without having to invest in any new equipment”.
With the new version of ShowMax Android app, Android TV user interface is optimised for large screen layout, support has been added for remote control input and there is support for higher resolution video.
Android devices must be running Android 4.1.0 (Jelly Bean) or higher so as to be able to run ShowMax.
