The Kenyan mobile operator Safaricom announced the creation of a partnership with Kwesé TV, subsidiary of Econet. From now on, Safaricom will have Kwesé TV as a service available for all its subscribers.

According to Dataxis research, for the last quarter of 2016, it is estimated that Safaricom has over 27 million out of 37 million local subscribers which is more than 70% share of the total market.

Kwesé TV will now be deployed and use the 4G network of Safaricom in order to broadcast its content. Sylvia Mulinge, Safaricom Consumer Business Director commented: “Our aim is to enhance our customer experience and deliver solutions that meet their unique needs. Video content is the future of mobile and our partnership with Kwesé will enable us to deliver some of the best international and local video content”.

“This is a powerful partnership, which will greatly benefit our customers and have a positive impact on the local industry” she added.  

On the other hand, Econet Media CEO, Joseph Hundah declared: “Through our partnership we will be able to leverage our collective strengths to give customers a world-class video service through the fastest network in Kenya. We are excited by the potential that mobile TV offers and look forward to working with Safaricom to deliver our content into the hands of even more Kenyans”.
