Southern African Development Community (SADC) will host the 7th SADC Digital Broadcasting Migration Digital Forum in Botswana on June 9, 2014 to update on the implementation of digital migration in the region. The member countries will provide progress reports on their implementation status and discuss the challenges encountered in the efforts.
The SADC Terrestrial Television Project Management will present a regional status report that will provide a holistic review of the SADC migration situation, monitoring and evaluation to date. Over 100 delegates representing 15 SADC member states will take part in the forum.
Several SADC countries have been struggling to achieve ITC’s deadline. While Malawi Government had successfully switched on DVB-T2 on December 31, 2013, the signal was later turned off as television broadcasters failed to subscribe for operational signals. Zimbabwe has complained of acute fund shortage, while Zambia too had witnessed disappointing sale of DTT decoders.
