SABC Sport, the sports channel of the South African Broadcasting Corporation, has revealed its broadcast partnership with the Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) which is the mixed martial arts (MMA) organization. The pact extends over several years for the African continent.
Sully Motsweni, the group executive at SABC Sport, said: “Over the years, SABC Sport has been committed to bringing top local and international sports properties to viewers across South Africa. I am proud to announce that SABC Sport has partnered with EFC, a home-grown world-leading Mixed Martial Arts organisation”.
Following this deal, the programming of SABC3 will be dedicated to EFC over several hours, including 10 live EFC event broadcasts each year. The offer will kick off as from February 11 on SABC 3 which will air EFC programming for two hours each Saturday evening. At each EFC event, the channel will screen a live event lasting for three hours which will feature five main-card bouts. The live event broadcast will be EFC 57 on March 4.
Commenting on SABC, the Kaizer Kganyago, the spokeperson at SABC, said: “The SABC has always prided itself in producing and promoting the best home-grown television productions as well as bringing the best international sport and entertainment to local viewers […] We are very proud to be promoting the sport in the different provinces and bringing all the top-quality EFC programming to SABC”.
