Rlg Limited, the technology company in Ghana, has recently bagged the contract of the manufacture of Set Top Boxes (STBs) for the country. This new development is in view of the upcoming deadline of the Digital Switch Over (DSO).
Following the start of local production of STBs in Ghana, the sale and distribution of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Receivers and Decoders that have been approved, will be rolled out early this year. The Government has revealed that the Phase 1 of the DTT network has been completed in 2016 and there is a central point which is located at Kanda. This is where all digital television stations would connect their programmes.
It will be a first time for the company to produce STBs for Ghana but it will be the second time, where the company possesses a track record of STBs manufacture, in the sub region. To recall, Rlg earlier produced 150000000 digital STBs for the pilot phase of migration in Nigeria.
RLG is expected to produce for the Ministry of Communications 600,000 STBs each month for the next one year and the boxes will bear Conformance DTT standard logo affixed on them.
