Riot Games and TV Azteca move the League of Legends league to Mexico in 2020

Riot Games, developer of League of Legends (LOL), the largest eSports league in Latin America, announced a partnership agreement with Mexican TV Azteca, Arena The Best Place To Play and Cinemex, in which, from 2020, the eight LOL’s teams will face each other in a physical venue, in front of a live audience.

‘We noted that our audience had the need to have esports content available. The first step was the launch of Azteca Esports, a big bet for getting us involved in the development of an industry that will undoubtedly continue to grow, such as esports’, said Rodolfo Ramirez, Director at Azteca Deportes. ‘The partnership agreement with the largest video game company in Latin America, such as Riot Games, is a key issue, because we will be able to bring our audience the most important esports competition in the region’, he added, and also said  that having the League of Legends Latin American League in Mexico ‘renewes our commitment to boost the esports development in the country and to offer a wider channel for those who support this sport’, he completed.

From Riot Games they have also expressed themselves on the agreement through Raul Fernandez, its General Manager for Latin America. ‘Our commitment has always been for our players and have the best league as possible, and this is a decision we make to further raise the production level. Due to the results recorded last year,  the teams commitment and the audience increasement throughout the region, strategic partners such as TV Azteca, Arena The Place To Play and Cinemex, joined us aimed to boost the esports industry in Latin America’, said the executive.

After being played in Chile last year, from 2020 the Riot Games eSports operation for League of Legends will move to Mexico City.

Rodolfo Ramírez Márquez and Raúl Fernández are two of the confirmed speakers for the first Sportv Series Latin America edition, conference organized by Dataxis, which will take place next October 2nd at the Biltmore Hotel in Miami, US.
