Paraguay ended 2016 with more than 549,000 pay TV subscribers, up 11% compared to previous year. Tigo and Personal added the most subscribers, according to data from regulator Conatel, published by Paraguay.com.py.
Tigo, the market leader, reported 273,000 subscribers, up 14% than previous year (34,000 subs). The data do not reflect the subscribers of its DTH operation, which was launched in early 2017. DTH service Personal TV ended the year with 56,000 customers compared to the 41,000 that it had in December of 2015. The company uses for its service the platform provided by Tuves, which was acquired last July by Telecom Argentina.
According to Conatel’s data, Claro’s subscriber base did not grow and remained at 137,000 subscribers. As in the case of Tigo, the data does not yet include Claro TV+ subscribers, the IPTV service that the company launched in June in the capital Asunción. In turn, Copaco’s IPTV service grew by 10% and registered around 6,000 subscribers. Other operators registered 78,000 customers.
