Pay TV in Chile grows 8% in 2017

Chile’s Subsecretary of Telecommunications (Subtel) published its latest statistics of the pay TV market. According to the agency, the country registered 3.29 million total subscribers in 2017, which represented an annual growth of 8%.
According to the data, cable and IPTV subscribers reached 1.63 million, up 10.2% from previous year. On the other hand, satellite TV systems recorded 1.66 million, up 5.9% fronm 2016.
The main operator of the market, VTR, recorded 1.06 million subscribers (+ 2% annual) and reached a market share of 32.3%, compared to 34.2% at the end of 2016. For its part, DirecTV reached 652,000 users (+13,2) and 19.3% of market share. Telefónica recorded 684,000 subscribers (+ 5.4%) and 20.8% of share, while Claro ended 2017 with 397,000 subscribers (-3.5%) and a share of 12.1%.
Behind the main operators of the market were Entel with 143,000 pay TV customers (4.3% market share), Pacífico Cable with 108,000 (3.3%), Telefónica del Sur with 106,000 (3.2 %) and GTD with 33,000 (1%).
