The National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) and the Paraguayan Customs want to ban non-digital TV sets imports in the country with the aim of preparing the population for the analog switch-off, which will take place in 2020. This was announced by Conatel’s Radiocommunication manager, Alberto Ishibashi, according to local daily ABC.
Ishibashi said that Conatel will set up a laboratory to certify that brands and models of imported TV sets have ISDB-T tuner. The executive confirmed that the analog swith-off will be carried out in December 2020 and said that set-top-boxes for analog TVs cost around G. 150 thousand (USD 26) each.
Paraguay plans to tender two new DTT channels in 2018. Early this year, two companies -Mercuria SA and DTH Magnetic- submitted their offers for the use of two channels in that technology. In turn, Ishibashi said that Telefuturo (channel 18) is available on DTT since last year, and recently RPC channel was added to this platform.
