The Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel) stated its position about the companies’ practice of charging an extra fee for the rental of set-top boxes . According to the regulator, this is “inappropriate” because “the company must provide them as part of the service”.
In a statement, the regulator said “the provision of services must include the supply of all technical equipment, including the delivery of set-top boxes”.
In addition, Osiptel said that is already working on a new rule that will specify the conditions for the provision of cable TV service and will guarantee more transparency”.
Last week, the Peruvian Association of Consumers and Users (Aspec) had denounced that the charge that the companies make “is illegal” and what they are really doing is “to disguise a price increase.”
