Netflix to have 1,000 original TV shows and movies by the end of 2018

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a conference in New York that the platform will have around 1,000 originals by the end of 2018, with 470 set to be released between now and end of the year.
Sarandos said that 85% of new spending will go toward original content this year. According to the executive, more than 90% of Netflix’s customers regularly watch original programming, reported Variey. This year, the company has set a budget of up to USD 8 billion on content.
Recently, Netflix announced the renewal of “Lost in Space” for season 2 and ordered the horror anthology series “10 After Midnight”, created by Mexican director Guillermo del Toro. “The creators we’re talking to, they watch Netflix and they want to be on our network,” Sarandos said.
Asked about Disney’s entry into the OTT market Sarandos said, “I don’t know what took them so long.” The media company will launch its own direct-to-consumer streaming service in 2019 and will end its distribution deal with Netflix.
