Netflix chief product officer, Neil Hunt, said during a meeting with journalists that the company is considering creating mobile-specific versions of its original shows, reported the site The Verge.
“It’s not inconceivable that you could take a master [copy] and make a different cut for mobile,” Hunt said. The adaptation for different viewing platforms “it’s something we will explore over the next few years”, the executive added.
The initiative aims to address the growing use of mobile devices for video consumption, especially now that Netflix has presence in more than 190 countries. In established markets like the United States or Canada, users watch Netflix mostly through TVs, but in some countries in Asia, especially India, mobiles “screens are the majority consumption device”.
