MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of DStv, explained the meaning of the concept Pay-Per-View, PPV. According to the company, it is a payment option whereby consumers pay an additional fee to watch a particular programme either on a cable or a satellite TV system.
The head of Public Relations of the company, Caroline Oghuma, made a statement during a press briefing, said that the concept is different from the pay-as-you-go which has been misconstrued to mean pay-per-view. She commented, “Pay TV operation is not like the telecommunication industry where consumers pay as he goes, it is not like telecoms where you pay for the amount of airtime you want to use.” Oghuma further added that the concept is only obtainable when there is a super programme exclusively to customers who want to watch a particular programme. In the case of Multichoice customers those on the premium bouquet will be able watch it. She added that when such programme is beamed, a dedicated channel pops up and disappears after the programme is aired.
The PR Head said that at every point in time the company is focused on adding value to the customers’ viewership without increasing subscription fees as much as possible for everybody that subscribes to the DStv franchise. “This is what we do to help our customers enjoy their subscription anytime they subscribe.” She said.
