The Indigenous Conditional Access System (iCAS)’s design approved by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) back in 2015, was rolled out in January 2016. It has been deployed in 300000 set-top boxes (STBs) by about 80 multisystem operators (MSOs) across India.
The information was reported by the Standing Committee on Information & Technology (SCIT). The iCAS was developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), teaming up with ByDesign from Bengaluru.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) revealed that around 10 million STBs have been installed by the MSOs. Out of this sum, 300000 STBs were with iCAS. This represent a market share of 3%. 190 million STBs were produced by domestic manufacturers. The MSOs were asked for long-term financing from the association of domestic STBs manufacturers.
