The Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV), which is the Myanmar Radio National Service and television channel, will be introducing five digital Free-To-Air (FTA) channels. Ten companies were shortlisted among which, Kaung Myanmar Aung Co Ltd will invest 17 billion MMK (12.5 million USD), according to Tun Group Asia Ltd.
The ten companies which were shortlisted were Eleven Media Group, Mizzima Media Co Ltd, DVB Multimedia Group Co Ltd, Bo Bo Entertainment Myanmar Group Co Ltd, Tikhina Co Ltd, VOIP Myanmar Group Co Ltd, Global Technology Co Ltd, Fortune International Ltd, Kaung Myanmar Aung Co Ltd and Young Investment Group Co Ltd.
The major investment by Kaung Myanmar Aung Co Ltd will be used for its Life Channel project. On the other hand, Eleven Media Group declared about investing 8.1 billion MMK (6 million USD) in its Eleven Channel project under the management of Dr Than Htut Aung and Dr Thein Myint. The two mentioned companies are followed by the third largest investor, in the name of Bo Bo Entertainment Myanmar Group, with an investment of 8 billion MMK (5.9 million USD).
According to Chit Tun Pe, a consultant for the Tun Group: “Both the ministry’s board and our company will scrutinise the source of money, tax payment, organisational set-up and the compliance with the MRTV’s policies and the Investment Law”.
“The Information Ministry plans to issue permits, for the development of broadcast media, to five new content providers for MRTV channels. The companies would have to pay a monthly fee of 20 million MMK (14689 USD)”, said Myint Htwe, director-general of MRTV under the Information Ministry.
