Movistar Play surpasses 580,000 users in Peru

Movistar Peru announced investments of close to S/1,400 million (USD 434 million) this year to improve the infrastructure of its fixed and mobile networks throughout the country. In this context, the company reported that Movistar Play streaming service has more than 580,000 users and the goal is to reach 1 million by the end of this year.
The company said that this year four 4G antennas will be installed daily in new and existing sites, which will represent a 60% growth compared to what was executed in 2017. In terms of fixed networks, Telefónica will increase the coverage of its high-speed Internet network in more than 500,000 homes. The company projects that by 2018, fixed internet speed in Peru will grow more than 30% compared to last year, reaching speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
“The figure announced for this year is a sign of Movistar’s confidence in Peru and the existing investment climate,” said Pedro Cortez, CEO of Movistar.
In addition to its Movistar Play video service, Telefónica also offers the Movistar Music application and its Movistar Prix application, which has more than 800,000 beneficiaries.
