Movistar launches eSports channel in Latin America

Movistar Play has launched in Latin America Movistar eSports, a new channel focused on the gaming universe with live and on demand League of Legends (LoL) professional tournaments.
It is initially available in Colombia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua and El Salvador. Soon, it will reach Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay, the company said in a press release.
Telefónica launched Movistar eSports first in Spain, a year and a half ago, as part of its commitment to the eSports world, which also includes the sponsorship of teams from both Latin America and Spain.
The Latin American version will have regional leagues and international events. On Saturday, September 15, it will live stream the Latin American League of Legends Final, which will be held at the Movistar Arena in Santiago de Chile.
The channel will also air the League of Legends World Championship, which will be played between October 1 and November 3 in Korea. The alliance contemplates 800 hours of broadcasts and includes other previous Riot’s competitions.
“The world of entertainment is moving fast, and there are new audiences that are relevant to the business, as is the case with video games,” explained Katiuska Veliz, TV and Video manager of Telefónica Movistar Colombia. “With Movistar eSports we continue to strengthen our commitment to customers to bring them the best local and global content, looking for content aimed at young people between 14 and 35 years old,” she concluded.
