Mexico’s IFT to review its decision on Televisa’s power in pay TV market

After a recent Supreme Court decision, the Mexican Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) will have to review its decision on Televisa’s substantial power in pay TV market.
“We are aware that we will have to revoke the resolution that determined that Televisa had substantial power in the pay TV market and issue a new one with the criteria established by the court,” said the president of the Mexican regulator, Gabriel Contreras, as reported by El Universal.
In September 2015, the IFT had determined that Grupo Televisa had no substantial power in the pay TV market. However, in January 2017 a specialized court revoked that resolution. The IFT finally declared Televisa as preponderant player in March 2017.
Televisa took the case to the Court in November 2017. Contreras said that the IFT has not yet been notified but he assured that they will review the criteria established by the Court in its ruling.
