Mexicos IFT closes case for monopolistic advertising

The Mexican Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) closed the file of a complaint submitted by Telcel (América Móvil) against Televisa for monopolistic practices in the advertising market during the 2011 Pan American Games.

Telcel accused Televisa of denying advertising spaces on its free-to-air TV channel with the objective of benefiting the mobile operator Iusacell, and transferring the alleged substantial power of the network in the advertising market to the mobile market. At that time, Televisa owned 50% of Iusacell in partnership with Grupo Salinas.

In a statement, the Mexican telecom regulator said that it decided to “close the file because it does not have elements to prove the monopolistic practices concerning advertising commercialization”.
