In its financial statements for the second quarter of 2017, released last week, Mexican operator Megacable reported 2.9 million pay TV subscribers, with net additions of 15,624 clients “at which point the company once again re-initiates growth in this segment, without leaving aside credit limit restrictions and thereby generating healthy growth”.
However, when comparing the figures with the same period last year, the company lost more than 83,399 subscribers (-2.8%), due to the fall of subscribers registered during Q416 and Q117 after Televisa removed its channels from the operator’s lineup.
Meanwhile, in June 2017, Megacable launched a new video generation multiplatform called X-View, a new and intuitive platform, which allows subscribes to enjoy content, such as shows and movies, in VOD format as well as interactive linear channels with advanced functionality, such as Start over, Reverse EPG and Cloud DVR.
The operator also reported significant growth in Internet and telephony services. Megacable ended the second quarter with 2.4 million Internet subscribers, with net additions of 109,218 during the quarter and 436,060 year-over-year, a growth of 4.7% and 22.1%, respectively.
The telephony segment reached 1.3 million subscribers. This represented 8% growth versus 1Q17 with approximately 99,000 net additions and record annual growth of 40% or 369,000 net adds.
