Mediapro to launch eSports OTT platform


Mediapro prepares to launch, before the end of this year, a Spanish-speaking OTT service dedicated to eSports, according to Expansión. It will be available globally but with special focus on Spain and Latin American markets.
According to the report, the group expects to reach five million users within five years. The service will initially be available for free and then will add premium content. In this way, it will compete with Twitch, the popular live streaming platform owned by Amazon. Additionally, Mediapro will launch a channel specialized in eSports through traditional pay TV operators.
The Spanish group made a big step into the eSports World in 2016, when it acquired Fandroid Entertainment, a company that manages the Professional Video Games League (LVP), which operates in Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru and the UK, reaching 20 million unique users. Mediapro bought a majority stake for € 4.6 million.
